Neil Nagar's
research focusses on accretion of matter onto massive black holes in
the nuclei of galaxies (so called Active Galactic Nuclei or AGN). He
studies the incidence of such AGNs (especially weak AGNs in nearby
galaxies), and their properties and evolution. He is also interested in
the evolution of accretion activity both with redshift, and along the
merger sequence (and eventually the fate of merging black holes). His
work primarily uses high resolution radio observations (the Very Large
Array and Very Long Baseline Array operated by the U.S.) and optical to
near-infra-red imaging and spectroscopy on several large telescopes.
Neil Nagar obtained his Ph.D. in 2000 at the University of Maryland,
USA, and joined
