Roger Leiton is interested in the detection and study of Supernova Remnants (SNRs) and the Intestellar Medium (ISM) in the Magellanic Clouds. He has spent several years working with Dr. R. Chris Smith et al. in the Magellanic Cloud Emission-Line Survey ( MCELS ). This is a joint project between U. of Michigan and CTIO that uses the CTIO Curtis/Schmidt telescope to map both Clouds, tracing the ionized gas (Halpha, [S II], [O III]). Currently Leiton is working with Dr. Doug Geisler at UdeC on a key project of NASA' Space Interferometry Mission (SIM), and in the operation of the on-campus observatory of the Universidad

 

 

   
 
campus observatory of the Universidad de Concepcion. He is also the leader of the International Dark-Sky Association ( (IDA) in Chile. This world-wide organization is devoted to preserve and protect the nightime environment and our heritage of dark skies. Activities in Chile are done in collaboration with the local amateur astronomers and groups .
